Darnall Medical Library (DML) is a small federal medical library that provides innovative services to improve the quality of healthcare and education. The library provides resources to the WRNMMC health care providers and command through electronic journals databases, helps with literature and systematic searches, as well as scholarly writing and publications, and supporting the military medical readiness’ broader mission.
The Darnall Medical Library (DML) emerged as a merger between the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) Library, the E.R. Stitt Library at National Naval Medical Center (NNMC), and the Darnall Dental Library, Naval Postgraduate Dental School (NPDS). In September of 2011, NNMC and WRAMC were joined to form Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as decreed by the Base Realignment and Closure law of 2005. At that time, it was named the Darnall Biomedical Learning Resource Center (DBLRC), but was renamed to Darnall Medical Library (DML) in 2014. The Darnall Medical Library (DML) is named after CAPT William L. Darnall Sr, DC USN.
Information is an essential tool for healing; therefore, it is our mission to ensure access to peer-reviewed research, personalized services, exceptional education, and collaborative opportunities to healthcare providers in support of the medical readiness and care of those we are privileged to serve.
The Darnall Medical Library’s goal is excellence. We envision the library, beyond walls, as the heart and soul for the thoughtful exchange of ideas to inform a smarter, healthier, more equitable hospital enlightened by evidence, empathy, and expertise. We aspire to be proactive, agile, and ever-evolving to accommodate our patrons as the healthcare landscape shifts.
